Founded in 1989 by Bryan Stevenson, lawyer and author of the book Just Mercy which was made into a movie Just Mercy, EJI.org is a 501c3 that provides legal representation to people who have been illegally convicted, unfairly sentenced, or abused in state jails or prisons. EJI challenges the death penalty and excessive punishment and provide re-entry assistance to formally incarcerated individuals.
